Visiting the Paul Smith Children’s Village at the Cheyenne Botanic Garden in Wyoming

By Meg Brunson

Compared to many of the cities and state capitols we’ve visited during our road trip, Cheyenne is a relatively small city – and what it lacks in skyscrapers and population, it makes up for with it’s stunning beauty. I absolutely loved Cheyenne!

The Botanic Garden is located in Lions Park in Cheyenne, Wyoming and includes the Paul Smith Children’s Village, which instantly intrigued us.

Parking at the Garden was free and we had no problems locating parking. There are tons of amazing opportunities for photos before you even enter the Paul Smith Children’s Village, and once inside there are paths that guide you through a variety of exhibits including statues of Mother Goose, life-size tee pees that the kids can crawl into, a koi pond with bridge, and a variety of wind-power generating sculptures and (of course) plants and flowers.

Our favorite spot was the Secret Garden – a cute little space “hidden” in the corner of the Children’s Village. The wall appears to have a face on it, and from inside you can peek out the “mouth,” and there is a little water fountain inside. The kids enjoyed playing in this area the most.

Tips for a great visit:

  • Hydrate – bring water bottles and sunscreen – the children’s garden area is outside and while areas are shady.

  • Plan a picnic – nearby parks and playgrounds provide the perfect picnic options.

The Paul Smith Children’s Village at the Cheyenne Botanic Garden was an adorable way to spend an afternoon. While we didn’t adventure into the main part of the Botanic Garden, but if the Children’s Village is any indication, it’d be impressively beautiful.
