Summer Camp - Robotics & Coding (6 yrs and older, Greenwood IN, June 2 - June 6, 2025, 1PM-4PM)
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
Kids learn behind-the-scenes of robotics and coding with various hands-on activities and projects. They build & program a robot that can play the drum. They learn coding. Kids get to keep one of the robots with option to purchase other robots.
This camp session is 5-day long from June 2 - June 6, 2025, Monday- Friday, 3 hours each day:
* Afternoon Session, Monday - Friday, 1PM-4PM
We offer camps over several weeks, morning session Mon-Fri 9AM-12PM as well as an afternoon session Mon-Fri 1PM-4PM. Check other dates and times or contact us for more information. You can choose a specific week that works best for you.
Our Robotics Camp is unlike any others where it offers a truly unique experience. All our robots are our original creation designed with custom-crafted wooden pieces and 3D printed parts. While our robots are simple in design, they deliver a powerful, fun, engaging, and educational experience for kids. They’re designed to spark creativity, build self-confidence, and help your child discover endless possibilities.
Kids Explore Robotics was founded by an experienced engineer (dad) and an engineering student (son), blending hands-on expertise with passion for innovation.
What makes us stand out?
- Unique Robots: Each robot is different, designed to focus on specific learning skills and challenges.
- Custom Creations: Our robots are custom-made from simple wooden blocks and 3D-printed parts. These creative, open-concept designs give kids a deeper understanding of robotics and coding.
- Hands-On Learning: Kids participate in fun individual activities that serve as the building blocks of robotics, ensuring every student gets involved.
- Teamwork & Collaboration: Group projects allow small teams (3-4 kids) to work together, fostering teamwork, social skills, and peer-to-peer learning.
- Design, Build, Program: Campers get to build, and program various robots through activities specifically designed to spark their creativity and make them feel like real engineers.
- Age-Appropriate for All Levels: We have activities and projects tailored for kids of all ages and skill levels.
- Most importantly, kids have a BLAST while learning a TON!
Our teaching method breaks lessons into small, easy-to-digest chunks, making it simple for any child to understand, engage, and learn. Under the guidance of our trained experts, kids improve critical thinking, teamwork, and social skills through both individual activities and group projects.
What will kids Learn?
Kid will learn about various components they need to build a robot, how each component works, how they all fit together to make a robot.
- They will learn about using motors (180 degrees and 360 degrees) to create various movements.
- They will learn programming concepts for robotics.
- They will learn to control various movements of a robot, range of movement, speed of movements etc..
Activities: Some of the initial set of activities include (but not limited to) are:
- Robotic Gate using a single 180 motor (coding behind it)
- Controlling a traffic light 3 LEDs (Red, Green, Yellow) using Arduino and the code behind it
- Building a windmill using 360 degrees motor (controlling speed and direction using code)
- Reading data from the sensor (using a code) and taking a specific action based on sensor input
- Controlling multiple components using a single microcontroller and code
- Learn to write code more efficiently using For Loops, While Loops, If-The, Functions etc.. and Arduino specific commands
Here is a sample YouTube video of what they will build: https://youtu.be/VtGNNWINfGI
Project: After doing the activities listed above, they will get a pretty good understanding of how the core components work and how to write code to control them. They will then build a fully functional robot that plays the drum. They will build this in 3 phases and learn coding that goes with each phase. And finally they will get to tweak the code or write their own code to make the robot play different drum beats. Basically, they will learn to create their own music. Here is the YouTube Video of the Drumming Robot they will build and program: https://youtu.be/3Qlua8mFeos
