Exploring Art through Movement and Nature

This camp will focus on the nexus of visual art, nature, and movement. Students will move around the Artisan Acres Estate and discover ways in which art, nature, and movement intersect. Students will take a daily yoga-inspired stretching class with Madeline in the morning before they move throughout the property and interact with its nature throughout the day. Nature will provide inspiration for movement-based activities and, subsequently, visual art projects that incorporate those principles. Students will produce visual arts projects at various points on the property; for example, they may explore tree-inspired creative movement activities before they create a wood painting under the majestic 400-year-old oak tree. Outdoor activities are subject to weather.

This camp will be strictly capped at 25 students. The younger half will be assigned to Margaret, and the older half to Madeline, and thus each teacher will be responsible for 12-13 students. The groups will come together for large-group recreational activities, snacks, and lunch, but will work only within their small groups for artistic activities. This allows students to enjoy both the fun of traditional large group activities and the intimacy and greater individualized attention of smaller groups. The child-to-adult ratio is, at maximum, 8.3-to-1.

An evening gallery reception will be held in the Grand Little Barn at 6 PM on June 7; children can stay on Friday evening until the reception.
