1) How is meeting Sankt Nikolaus different from meeting Santa Claus?
It is customary to bring a drawing/craft, sing a song or recite a poem when meeting Sankt Nikolaus instead of sitting on his lap to make a wish.
2) Is Knecht Ruprecht scary?
He is not scary. He is a friend and quiet helper who hands visiting children treats.
3) Can Sankt Nikolaus come to my house?
You never know! Families who celebrate Nikolaustag (Nikolaus Day) leave clean boots by the door on the evening of December 5. When they wake up on December 6, the boots might be filled with chocolate, nuts, oranges and a toy.
The event is sponsored by Indiana German Heritage Society and IUPUI Max Kade German-American Research Center.
