Ess McKee

Title of mural: Happy Daze

Ess McKee is a multimedia visual artist native to Arizona, based in Indianapolis, IN. Inspired by an appreciation for graffiti art and hip hop culture, her artistic expression manifests in the form of abstract paintings, character illustrations, digital design, and the combination of all three within murals. She is a current member of The Eighteen, an art collective of 18 artists that created the Black Lives Matter Mural in Indianapolis, IN. Ess is also a resident artist at The Harrison Center for the Arts. 

Kyng Rhodes

Title of Mural: Gratitude

Kyng Rhodes is a full-time visual artist, having been in love with creating art his entire life he attended college to obtain a degree in graphic design in favor of a creative career, but his true love is embedded in illustration, street art, and fine art alike. During the pandemic of 2020, Rhodes made the decision to leave the workforce, and become a full-time creative. This decision came about through the encouragement of friends, and loved ones, and Rhodes’ own experience participating in Indianapolis’ version of the “Black Lives Mater” Mural in which Rhodes’ painted the ”B” in the black on the historic Indiana Avenue.

Rhodes’ work is conceptual, with several goals intended. He draws inspiration from his thoughts, and feelings towards the events that he has experienced or sighted through the media, observation of society, and his personal life infused with his spirituality. His work has a strong focus on color, and shadow with varying incorporations of symbolism

Ashley Nora

Ashley Nora captures real moments of human interaction through portraiture using multiple mediums to express different ideas. She is a dedicated Visual Artist with a decorated background in a variety of artistic mediums. Highly experienced in oil painting and mixed media art. Adept at working independently and collaboratively on projects, and committed to achieving visual innovation and beauty.

Deonna Craig

Deonna Craig is an Indianapolis based visual artist and the owner of Art by Deonna. She graduated from Cathedral High School and DePauw University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Sociology. After spending 15 years in Corporate America, Deonna’s creativity and love for adventure caused her to pursue art full-time. As an entrepreneur, Deonna is able to pursue her passions of community building, teaching, public speaking, and visual art. She also serves as a mentor, a dance instructor, and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.

Kevin Nance West

Kevin Nance West is a professional fine artist, art entrepreneur (and art instructor) in the Indianapolis area, specializing in contemporary abstract paintings and portrait art. Kevin is the founder and CEO of West Innovations, which is responsible for custom ‘paint by number’ technology used to service over one hundred seventy-five sip and paint studios and companies (nationwide) including Storie Brush, Wine and Canvas, and Canvas and Cocktails.

Kevin studied at the Herron School of Art and Design in Indianapolis prior to exploring business ventures in art. (Early initiatives included teaching art classes at the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis and hosting private portrait painting workshops.) With the goal of bringing art to everyone, Kevin launched Gifted Custom Art in 2014. Using an application called Photomatic, the process of creating and scaling custom imagery became automated. For the first time, amateur artists were able to create portraits of their loved ones using the ‘paint by number’ technique. This model was quickly licensed by (paint and sip) affiliates across the country.

(Kevin, a cancer survivor, has not let life’s obstacles stop him. Rather, they have fueled the passion for his craft. His larger than life art is filled with colorful lines of emotion dancing across the canvas.) In his twenty years as a professional artist, Kevin has experimented with a variety of mediums and concepts including mixed media and broken records. His abstract portrait art done with acrylics celebrates figures of pop culture and Black influencers, athletes, and entertainers.

In 2020, Kevin was selected by Indy10 Black Lives Matter and other community groups to help design and implement the Black Lives Matter mural along Indiana Avenue; a street that was once the center of Black life in Indianapolis.

Wavy Blayne

Hailing from Indianapolis, “Wavy” Blayne is a mid-career artist focused on mixed-media and music production.  His love for the arts is simply the thing that drives his passion.  Pulling influence from Japanese culture and street art, he creates a unique Afrofuturism style that he calls, “Wavy”.  Learning through practical experiences of trial and error, and studying the works of Akira Toriyama and Jim Lee as his teachers, Blayne has worked as a freelance artist since 2010.  With the “Black Lives Matter” mural being his debut work to the city, Blayne brings a fresh new look to the world.

Gary Gee

Gary Gee (b. 1971; Indianapolis, IN) is a Visual Artist working in mixed media, ceramics, and murals. His work is inspired and influenced by his travels, music, and inner city countercultures.

Gee is a Teaching Artist, Adjunct Professor,Life & Object Drawing 1 & 2, Ivy Tech Community College , Arts 4 Learning (2020)  , and recipient of the 2019 Robert D. Beckmann, Jr. Emerging Artist Fellowship from the Arts Council of Indianapolis and the 2018 Ivy Tech Alum of the Year - Indianapolis Campus. Gary’s work has been prominently featured in Art & Soul (2018), High Art Billboard (2017), and awarded recognition of distinction in Flava Fresh (2014).

To further his artistic profession, Gee has participated in the On-Ramp Creative Entrepreneur Program (2019) and is a standing member of the We Are Indy Artist Collective, and the Eighteenth Artist Collective, Gee holds a BFA in Integrated Studio Practices from Indiana University’s Herron School of Art and Design (IUPUI) and an AFA in Fine Arts and AAS in Visual Communications  from Ivy Tech Community College.

Rebecca Robinson 

Title of Mural: Shopping Zen

Award-winning mixed media artist, Rebecca Robinson studied fashion design in Atlanta, Ga., and continued her education at North Carolina Central University where she majored in Art/ Visual Communications and graduated with high honors. Her background also includes art history, photography, graphic design, film, and creative marketing/branding. Rebecca was mostly known for her fashion design company PSNOB (pronounced snob) which launched in 2001 but in recent years,  has taken a new direction with her craft. In the spring of 2019, Rebecca began the initial stages of forming her nonprofit organization called “ONE ARRT ”, which will become the first black-owned art supply brand that specifically supports all artists, art organizations, art education, museums/galleries, and communities in need who would prosper with proper funding and resources. Rebecca has also contributed to several nonprofit organizations throughout the country by auctioning her one-of-a-kind handbags and fine art.

Rebecca's artwork has been featured in dozens of media outlets including;  Indianapolis Business Journal Podcast, WFYI,  NUVO, Jezebel Magazine Atlanta, Pattern Magazine,  Indianapolis Star, Indianapolis Recorder, New York Examiner, WTHR 13, WISH-TV 8. RTV 6, FOX 59, Creative Mornings Indianapolis, Indianapolis Monthly Magazine, The National Endowment Of The Arts including the Black Creativity Exhibit at the Chicago Museum of Science and History of her painting of jazz legend Miles Davis  In the summer of 2019, Rebecca was selected by the Arts Council of Indianapolis to showcase her work for the annual High Art Billboard project (2019-2020).  Rebecca is also a self-published author of the book "Arts Honor".  In 2018,  Rebecca co-produced the award-winning documentary film "The Color of Medicine": The Story of Homer G. Phillips as a tribute to her father and grandfather.  In honor of the historic documentary film, Rebecca received an official scroll from Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas from the county of Los Angeles for her contribution to preserving an important part of history and giving back to the community of St. Louis and beyond.  In the summer of 2020, Rebecca became a member of the art collective "EIGHTEEN" who created the street mural Black Lives Matter on Historic Indiana Avenue in Indianapolis during the Black Lives Matter movement. Rebecca is a proud member of the Kurt Vonnegut Museum Planning Committee, The Indianapolis Black Documentary Film Festival Advisory Committee, and  African American History Committee Advisory Board for the Indianapolis Public Library.

Harriet Watson

Harriet Watson grew up in Greencastle, Indiana, and currently resides in Bloomington, IN. Harriet went to school at Ohio Wesleyan University, IUPUI Herron School of Art, and finished with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Indiana University Bloomington. She is the social media coordinator of The Eighteen Art Collective. Harriet enjoys painting, making tie-dyed clothing, and selling her work at local markets. Amiah Mims

Amiah Mims is an ever-growing designer and painter. Residing in Indianapolis, the 28-year-old is a 2015 graduate of Kent State University where she majored in Visual Communication Design and minored in Photo Illustration. She is also a retired KSU collegiate level gymnast and MAC Champion.

Until recently, she was a full-time Graphic Designer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. However, her need to invest more into her organic artistic talents motivated her to take a leap of faith and branch out on her own. Now she offers a wider range of her creative services as a freelance designer and professional artist. To date, her art career highlights include the Welcome Race Fans project (2019), the BLM Boarded Window Mural project (2020), the Indy BLM Street Mural project (2020) and the Indianapolis Recorder building mural (2020).Though she mainly uses acrylic paints, she enjoys exploring different mediums on different canvases. Her style is flexible and adapts accordingly, depending on her mood or the content of the piece. Her use of color is vivid, causing her work to have a bold presence. 

Reading is her favorite pastime, along with singing in the shower. Sometimes in public, but mostly in the shower.

Shane “FITZ” Young

Shane “FITZ” Young is a self-taught left handed artist that has been drawing ever since he could remember. The older cartoons are my inspirations and they are what keeps me on my toes. Markers and acrylic is my preferred medium. I just want to be the best artist I can be.
