2021 Summer Camps - With Mini Minds

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 07/30/2021
Here at Mini Minds we value the development of grit, growth mindset, mindfulness and meditation in our children! Does your child take on challenges? Does your child know how to critically think about a problem? Does your child persevere when the solution seems out of reach? Does your child know how to keep their hopes high and their thoughts positive, even in the face of unkindness? Our children are faced with several opportunities each day to reframe how to approach challenges and problem solve sticky situations. At Mini Minds, we know these are the most formative years in your child's life and the skills and tools they learn now will serve them for the rest of their academic career and into adulthood. As a village, we can empower our children with the emotional intelligence to be the change and make a difference!

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

This summer we are excited to again offer a wide variety of skill-building experiences for children entering Kindergarten through Third Grade! Our licensed clinicians have designed several engaging literacy-based summer camps to enhance your child's social, emotional, and executive functioning development. Camps will be held from 9am-11am Monday through Thursday. Cost is $165 per week and includes a copy of the featured book

"I Think, I Am" Positive Affirmations Camp

June 1st through June 4th

Does your child know that the things they think and say have the power to make a big difference? Learning to turn unhappy thoughts into positive affirmations is a great thing to practice and we have a ton of fun tricks for doing so! This camp will have literacy, language, fine motor, gross motor, social problem solving, and emotional regulation activities inspired by Louise Hay's book, I Think, I Am. When you say something over and over, you start to believe it is true; and what you believe creates what you do and what happens to you. The happiness and confidence that come from the ability to change negative thoughts in to positive is something children will carry with them their entire lives!

"Beautiful Oops" Perspectives Camp

June 8th through June 11th

A life lesson that all parents want their children to learn: it’s okay to make a mistake. In fact... hooray for mistakes! A mistake is an adventure in creativity, a portal of discovery, an  opportunity to experience the benefits of perspective and perseverance! This camp will have literacy, language, fine motor, gross motor, social problem solving, and emotional regulation activities inspired by Barney Saltzberg's book, Beautiful Oops. And an accidental tear in your paper? Don’t be upset about it when you can turn it into the roaring mouth of an alligator! Forming a new mindset on mistakes and compassion for problem-solving requires the cognitive flexibility to help us change the focus of our attention from it's over to it's on!

"Scribble Stones" Generosity Camp

June 15th through June 18th

In this camp, we'll meet Scribble, who feels left out because he doesn't look like everyone else. He teaches others to accept each other for who they are, which enables them to create some amazing art. This camp will have literacy, language, fine motor, gross motor, social problem solving, and emotional regulation activities inspired by Diane Alber's book, Scribble Stones. No matter how small, we all have the ability to be something greater! And we can do so by bringing joy to the people around us. There are endless opportunities to spread kindness, including finding stones and adding art (a scribble, a splatter, or a happiness heart), then giving them away to let someone know that scribble stones make happiness grow!

"The Cool Bean" Kindness Camp

June 22nd through June 25th

Everyone knows the cool beans. They’re sooooo cool. But what does it truly mean to be "cool?" And how can we use our "coolness" for good? This camp will have literacy, language, fine motor, gross motor, social problem solving, and emotional regulation activities inspired by Jory John and Pete Oswald's book, The Cool Bean. You wouldn’t think that you need to be teaching your kid to be kind – but, like reading and writing – emotional intelligence doesn’t come naturally to all children. Some children miss the subtle signs that they are upsetting those around them. Some children have a hard time putting themselves in other people’s shoes. Some children have a hard time knowing how to be kind. Explore the real way to become a real cool bean!

"I Am Yoga" Mindfulness Camp

June 29th through July 2nd

What opportunities does your child have to find peace in a chaotic world? Empower your child with the gift of mindfulness and the ability to experience empathy through imagination! This camp will have literacy, language, fine motor, gross motor, social problem solving, and emotional regulation activities inspired by Susan Verde's book, I Am Yoga. An eagle soaring among the clouds, a camel in the desert or a boat sailing across the sea... yoga has the power of transformation. Not only does it strengthen bodies and calm minds, but with a little imagination, it can show us that anything is possible! Mindful movement encourages children to explore the world of yoga and make room in their hearts for the world beyond it.

"Say Something" Confidence Camp

July 6th through July 9th

How confident does your child feel speaking up and speaking out? Inspire your child to make their voices heard! This camp will have literacy, language, fine motor, gross motor, social problem solving, and emotional regulation activities inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' book, Say Something!. Many children struggle to assert their thoughts and feelings, even when they know that speaking up is the right thing to do. Understanding how a single voice can make a difference, whether you have a brilliant idea or see an injustice, proves there is an undeniable importance of our voice. Our words have the power to connect, transform and empower. Every day we have the chance to say something with our actions and our words!

"Teach Your Dragon" Empathy Camp

July 13th through July 16th

Having a pet dragon is very fun! He can sit, roll over, and play… But what if your dragon does not care about other people’s feelings? What if he does and says things to others that he will regret? What should you do? You teach him empathy! This camp will have literacy, language, fine motor, gross motor, social problem solving, and emotional regulation activities inspired by Steve Herman's book, Teach Your Dragon Empathy. The best way to master a skill is to teach it to someone else! Dragons are the perfect pupils for learning a wealth of valuable skills, such as how to be considerate, how to understand how others feel, how to put himself in others' shoes, and how to get along!

"Drum Dream Girl" Courage Camp

July 20th through July 23rd

Kids and teens are growing up in a world that is becoming increasingly competitive and comparative. It is easy to for them to believe that the ones who have found success or happiness are better than, stronger than, smarter than, or privy to something magical – certain qualities that are reserved for the lucky few. The truth is that none of us are born with the ‘success’ gene or the ‘happiness gene’. There are many things that lead to success and happiness, but one of the most powerful of these is courage and tenacity, especially in the face of naysayers. This camp will have literacy, language, fine motor, gross motor, social problem solving, and emotional regulation activities inspired by Margarita Engle's book, Drum Dream Girl.

***This camp will also debut our new program, Rainforest Rhythm Kingdom, which was developed using a variety of modalities, including drumming, singing, improvisation, movement and speaking (rhythm chants), to create a well-balanced music experience that gives opportunity for creativity, imagination and reflection. On-going drum circle classes focusing on self-regulation and self-expression to begin in September!

"Mini Kindy" Kindergarten Prep Camp

July 27th through July 30th (session 1)

August 3rd through August 6th (session 2)

There is more to success in kindergarten that learning the ABCs and 123s. You want your child to enjoy meaningful relationships, be caring and compassionate, work hard and be responsible, and feel good about who they are. Back by popular demand, this special "jump start" program is designed for children entering kindergarten in 2020 or 2021. Enhance your child's ability to successfully navigate classroom basics: focusing on the teacher during circle times, following directions during transition times, and taking turns with peers during social times. Fine tune fine motor skills, gear up on gross motor skills, and light up those literacy skills! And last but certainly not least, become aware of the mixed feelings that accompany starting a new year.
